Events have been part of Abbie’s life for as long as she can remember. With her mum, Lee, running Aesthetics, she grew up around the world of live events, often spending time in the office or tagging along to shows and sporting fixtures. It felt natural, then, that at 16 she began working out in the field at live sporting and entertainment events with the Aesthetics team.
After several years on-site, she moved into a coordination role, providing key support to the account management team. Her focus today is on major sporting contracts, where she works closely with her sister, Emily and Mum, Lee, helping ensure the right staff are in the right roles and fully prepared for each event.
Her responsibilities include preparing event briefings, staff documents, allocations, training packs, contracts and health and safety information. “Everything the on-site event staff need to know, I pull it together,” she explains. “It’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work, but it makes a big difference to how smoothly everything runs on the day.”
Abbie’s favourite part of the job is the variety and the sense of being part of something bigger. “There’s always something new happening. And even though I’m not there in person anymore, it’s amazing to see these huge events on TV or social media and know you helped make them happen.”
Her six years of field experience means she understands the fast-paced, high-pressure environment that staff work in. “Because I’ve been out there, I know what they need,” she says. “It helps me support them properly.”
Working with family is another unique element of her role. “It has its ups and downs,” she laughs, “but it’s lovely too. You can ask questions, be honest and be yourself. It feels like a real family business, not just because of blood but because everyone’s been together so long.”
