Mel remembers when the London Marathon became one of the most memorable events she has ever worked on.
Starting before dawn, she spent the day supporting a busy VIP hospitality area, covering miles on foot as she worked alongside the team to keep everything running smoothly. From managing staff positions to supporting the event organisers, it was a constant, fast-paced environment.
“It was nonstop,” she recalls. “But it was amazing.”
What stood out most was the atmosphere. Unlike traditional hospitality settings, the environment was relaxed, emotional and full of energy. Guests, including high-profile attendees, were simply there to support the runners, sharing in the experience rather than expecting formality.
“It felt different,” she says. “Everyone was just happy to be there, supporting each other.”
Moments throughout the day stayed with her, from emotional reunions at the finish line to stories of determination and resilience. One runner completing the marathon with a fridge on his back, raising significant funds for charity, became a standout memory.
“That was incredible to see,” she says.
Having also worked across major stadiums and sporting venues over the years, Mel reflects on the contrast between events. While large venues bring scale and structure, events like the marathon offer something more personal.
Now working both on-site and behind the scenes, those experiences shape how she approaches her role every day. Whether coordinating staff or supporting delivery on the ground, her focus remains the same: making sure people have the best possible experience.
